Election Day is May 12... who will YOU vote for?
As of today, we are 20 days from Waco ISD school board election.
How do you know who to vote for? Should you consider friendship, leadership, vision, accessibility, job performance or the candidates passion for the job? Let's keep it simple. Are you satisfied with how Waco ISD has performed. If you are, then vote for Mr. Atkins. If you are not satisfied you should vote for Dr. Davis. (read the Q&A with Mr. Atkins or Dr. Davis from today's WacoTrib) We have to keep things simple. Is this "fair"? Well, I would think that the incumbent would say that it is not, and I understand. Some people would ask you to look at the progress and how the district has changed for the better. Waco ISD has made some positive strides and I'm thankful. But when the rubber meets the road, are YOU satisfied with Waco ISD. Elections are pretty straight forward and simple, they are the ultimate YES or NO. It's just that simple, yes or no. The education establishment has a way of complicating things. If you want proof how convoluted the education system is, just sit in on any school board meeting. School boards across the state have way too little say on how to educate the children they care for. It seems that federal and state legislators along with non-elected bureaucrats have successfully stripped the authority from them. School board elections are somewhat confusing as to who get's the credit or blame for the status of the district. When times are good should we thank the Superintendent or the trustees? What are the responsibilities of each of school board member anyway? They are to set goals, listen to reports from the superintendent, approve budget, contracts and personnel appointments. They do not make management decisions, solve problems of individuals as management, that is the responsibility of the superintendent. School board members are elected every three years. How long should we hold them accountable for how the district is doing? The answer is, every three years. Each of them deserve the accolades and the criticism during their term. They are one board and we here one voice. On election day they too will here our voice, one voice. Election day is the only time we get to give our approval of each board member. For me, I want change. I will cast my vote for Dr. Davis. I believe he is what Waco ISD needs right now. He is energetic, charismatic and very well informed about the issues. I believe he will bring energy to the board by stretching their thinking and by challenge the status quo. He is what Waco ISD and the City of Waco need. Dr. Davis represents the new public servant who is willing to reach out to inform and educate the community. This election, Pat Atkins is wanting your approval. Dr. Nika Davis wants the opportunity to show you his vision. I hope you give Dr. Davis the opportunity to serve you and for him be part of what Waco has been needing. Dr. Nika Davis is willing and more than able to get the job done. Vote Dr. Nika Davis for Waco School Board. May 12, Information about School Board election
